Stars: Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, Wendell Corey, Harry Morgan
Charming seasonal clerk Steve Mason catches beautiful Connie Ennis in a fraudulent shopping scheme during the busy Christmas rush. But when he discovers that Ennis is a war widow and single mother, Mason takes pity on her and can't bring himself to turn her in. His supervisor takes notice and fires him on the spot. Mason befriends Connie and her young son, Timmy, and may complicate her plans to marry boring nice guy Carl Davis.
This is such a beautiful romantic Christmas movie. I loved it. The story is so simple but the feeling are so complicated. Connie has been dating this man that she thinks is good for her and her son, but it is not all that great. Carl does not have the patience that it takes for a young boy. Connie meets Mason, and it love at first sight, well almost. She is pretty interested in this man that is being so forward with her, and her son Timmy really likes him. It all makes for a sweet story for the holiday season.
The cast and the acting was great in this movie. Robert Mitchum is just charming in this movie. You can tell that he is in love with this woman. You really believe it. Janet Leigh plays the role of the mother trying to help her family and trying not to fall in love with this handsome stranger. Just so good.
If you have not seen this movie, then you need to look for it around the Christmas season. It is well worth watching, curled up on a cold winter night. Enjoy.
