Pete's Dragon (2016)

Director: David Lowery

Stars: Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Oakes Fegley, Oona Laurence, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban

Mr. Meacham, a woodcarver, delights local children with stories of a mysterious dragon that lives deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. His daughter Grace believes these are just tall tales, until she meets Pete, a 10-year-old orphan who says he lives in the woods with a giant, friendly dragon. With help from a young girl named Natalie, Grace sets out to investigate if this fantastic claim can be true.

Here is the remake to the 70's Disney family classic, Pete's Cragon. When I first heard of this being made, I was not expecting much at all, since most of the remakes are terrible. With this movie, they stuck to the story. I was very impressed with the movie.

The story was still sweet and emotional. While watching this movie, you really start to believe in the friendship between Pete and his dragon. all they have in the world is each other. That bond is felt all through this movie. It is man that becomes the enemy, but they normally are the villains. Man wants to kill and destroy what they do not understand or afraid of. They are the simple ones in the stores. It took intelligence to be able to understand the dragon and not be afraid. That was the best part of the story. Showing people put their fear aside, because they see that this little has done the same. Pete befriended the dragon when adult would not be able to.

The cast for this movie was great. Bryce Dallas Howard was really good in this movie. She was that young caring mother that looked out for all children. Her character had a kind open heart. I was so surprised when I saw that Robert Redford was in this movie. He still has it. He is still such a great actor. I am not used to seeing Karl Urban as a bad guy in a movie. That just floored me on how good he was playing the stupid asshole that he was in the movie.

The creation of the dragon was the best. They kept like he was first drawn up. He was not that scaly reptile. He was the soft furry dragon that you want to snuggle up to every night. The look of the dragon is what really sold this movie.

They did not try to make this movie really funny. I was very glad of that. This is a great movie for the whole family. There was really nothing wrong with the movie at all. It is one that you may want to add to your our collection, especially if you are a Disney fan. Enjoy.
