It sounds like just another urban legend, a videotape filled with nightmarish images leads to a phone call foretelling the viewer's death in exactly seven days. Newspaper reporter Rachel Keller is skeptical of the story until four teenagers all die mysteriously exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery.
This movie is a remake of the Japanese horror movie Ringu. I will not be comparing the two movie, but Ringu is better.
Wow! When this movie came out it really seemed like we were going to really see something different, and we did. This movie just knocked it out of the park. This movie created a new urban legend by putting the details in the movie. It really does not take much for some people to believe that some horror movies are based on fact. This movie place all of the details where one could think that there is this haunted VHS tape, and after watching it you will die in seven days. That idea alone is pretty scary, but what if you thought is all was based on some truth? That would make it all worse.
The cast and the performances in the movie were so much better than you will see in most horror movies. You have Naomi Watts as the lead, and her name was becoming more well known. It seemed to help the quality of the movie. The rest of the cast was really good.
What really helped make this movie a hit was the special effects. The little girl was frightening at first, but then you get use to her coming out of that TV. It is a sight that would completely make you jump out of your skin, if you really saw something like that. The scares in the movie are a mixture of jump scares and just creepy scenes. They both work out rather well for the movie.
This is a really good movie that is a must see, if you have not seen it for some insane reason. The scares are there and so is the story. This movie has what it takes to makes a good horror movie. The original movie was better. This remake is worth watching. Enjoy.
