Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Director: Bill Condon

Stars: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci

Disney's animated classic takes on a new form, with a widened mythology and an all-star cast. A young prince, imprisoned in the form of a beast, can be freed only by true love. What may be his only opportunity arrives when he meets Belle, the only human girl to ever visit the castle since it was enchanted.

The story is the same as the animated version. Most of the lines are the same. They did add a few new songs and change a few things, but for the most part it is the same as the animated. That is what I am going to talk about in the review the movie itself.

The cast for the movie was great. I had really no complaints. Everyone did a really good job. Emma Watson was great as Belle. She had the role nail down flat. She has the pose and beauty that it takes to play such a well known and popular Disney princess. I was just really surprised by how much talent was used in the movie. There are some great names used for the movie.

Almost all of the movie was touch with special effects of some sort. It was mostly computer based effects, but they were all over the place. I do not think that there was a scene that effects were not used. Here is the good part is that it all blended together so well together that it made the movie look great, for the most part.

The only real problem that I had with the movie was the Beast. The entire character was computer animated. I think that the face was all wrong. It was so flat and lifeless for most of the movie. He kind of smiled at times, but it was when he yelled or roared is when his face was the most animated. In the scenes when they showed him walking, he looked like a bad old video game character. His body was so stiff in the scenes. His shoulders did not move that, if at all. The character so just too stiff, while all of the other animated characters were so fluid and full of life. That is what so off putting about the whole movie. The extra music bothered me a bit as well.

This was a good movie, but it was not as great as the hype that was thrown on this movie. There are a lot of harsh reviews of this movie. It is not that bad though. It is well worth watching for adults, and I think kids will still love it. Enjoy.
