The elderly bat researcher, professor Abronsius and his assistant, Alfred, go to a remote Transylvanian village looking for vampires. Alfred falls in love with the inn-keeper's young daughter Sarah. However, she has been spotted by the mysterious count Krolock who lives in a dark and creepy castle outside the village.
This is a parody movie, before they even existed. The movie was loosely making fun of the Hammer horror movies of the 60s. There were tons of Hammer movies coming out of the movie studio in England. The Hammer movies had a large following in the UK and the USA, so it was just timing for someone to make light of the movies this studio releases.
The cast was the best part of the movie. First of all, Roman Polanski starred in the movie as well as directed the movie. He has casted himself in several of his own movies. It is rather common. This was Sharon Tate's first credit movie role. This was just the start of her movie career.
This is not a movie for everyone. You really have to like the old vampire movies to love this movie. Watching the older vampire movies will help you understand this movie better.
This is one of those movie that you really need to give it a try. You may really like this movie. It is also one of those movies that you may have to watch twice. I know it is a lot, but it will be really worth it. Enjoy.
