Tab Hunter Confidential (2015)

Director: Jeffrey Schwarz

Stars: Tab Hunter, Clint Eastwood, Portia de Rossi, Noah Wyle, Debbie Reynolds, Robert Wagner, Lainie Kazan, John Waters, George Takei, Robert Osborne

In the 1950s, Tab Hunter is number one at the box office and number one on the music charts. He is Hollywood's most sought-after star and America's boy next door. Natalie Wood, Debbie Reynolds and Sophia Loren are just a few of the actresses he is romantically linked to. Nothing, it seems, can damage his skyrocketing career. Nothing, that is, except for the fact that Tab Hunter is secretly gay. Now, Tab Hunter's secret is out. In Tab Hunter Confidential we will meet, for the first time, the real Tab Hunter as he shares with us the whole story of a happy, healthy survivor of Hollywood's roller coaster.

This is a Hollywood biography/documentary that I have been waiting for. Tab Hunter was the American golden boy. He had it all. Men and women fell in love with his handsome face, fit built body with a golden tan and his short golden blond hair. Everyone wanted him physically. Not only did he have the looks, he also had the talent to back it up. They just did not know what to do with gay actors in those days. I mean over half of the male actors in those days were gay. Hunter was just not that secretive about whom he was dating back them. It really hurt his career.

This documentary takes a look at Tab Hunter's entire life. The documentary is so well made and interesting. Hunter tells about his life and career in Hollywood. There are a ton of other actors interviewed that were friends with him and/or worked with him.

The worst part of this movie is what was left out of it. It was left out of the book as well. I wanted the dirt. I want to hear about who did what and who they did it with. I wanted to hear about some juicy story or a romp in the bed with someone. He was so nice about every single person that he spoke of. I am such he is one of the nicest and private men, but I still wanted to hear about something.

This documentary is well worth watching to learn about one of the golden boy of Hollywood that ended up gay like all of the others. If you can find a way to watch it, and you are a fan of old Hollywood, then watch it. I don't think that you will be disappointed. Enjoy.
