Director: David Ayer
Stars: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jay Hernandez, Scott Eastwood
Figuring they're all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission. Now armed with government weapons, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other despicable inmates must learn to work together. Dubbed Task Force X, the criminals unite to battle a mysterious and powerful entity, while the diabolical Joker launches an evil agenda of his own.
This was one of the most anticipated movie of 2016. It was going to be the new movie from DC comics that did not deal with the Justice League movie that they were working on. The movie was going to be about some of the supervillains called the Suicide Squad. This series was really only known by comic book collectors and such, but some of the characters were commonly known about by others.
This movie was one of the biggest let downs that I have seen in a long time. I was looking forward to seeing this movie, when I first heard that they were working on it. The stills were released for Jared Leto as the Joker. He was not the best looking Joker, but I was hoping that it would change in time. Then the whole line up was released and who was playing who. When I heard that Will Smith was going to be one of the villains, I was almost done with this movie. Not a fan of his at all.
This movie starts off by telling the history of each member of the Suicide Squad, which lets the audience know how they got to be who they are. Not everyone knows the ends and outs of comic book characters, so they had to do this, but this part of the movie did take up a large chuck of the movie. The rest of the movie is made up of fighting and bad one liners. Not really worth the time wasted.
Here is what I thought of the characters. Will Smith was Deadshot. He was forgettable. They tried to give him some one liners that just fell flat. Jay Hernandez was El Diablo. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was Killer Croc. El Diablo and Killer Croc were the coolest of all of the characters in the movie, yet it seemed like they were both just thrown in the background in most of the scenes. It was really a shame. They both needed a lot more time in the movie. Now, I am not going to go through all of the characters in the movie, but I am saving the two worst for last.
Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn. This is the main character that they focused on in most of the movie. They were really trying to make that character pop off the screen. I am a fan of the Harley Quinn character, but when did she become a high school hooker? That is how she is dressed and painted up. The smeared make-up on her face and dressed like she went to Hot Topic to get her clothes. The whole character creation was a complete wreck. It was more like a pissed off 15 year old girl than a younger woman.
The Joker was just bad. I mean really. He looked like a bad white ghetto trash rapper. The look and the clothes reeked of it. The covers on his teeth and all of the jewelry made him look more like a screwed up pimp more than the supervillain. If you are a fan of the Joker, this has got to be the worst possible way for him to be represented. Jared Leto is a good actor. This was just the worst Joker that I have ever seen. Caesar Romero, from the original series, was better as the Joker. They need to stop making these movies for trendy little idiots.
This movie is worth watching once, but that is it. The movie runs like there is a race to the end of it. There is just too much going on with very little being said. Lots of action, but there is not really much of a story to be told. They really did need to take more time on this movie to make it better. Enjoy.
