In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt, a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that, if successful, will not only save his life but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
First of all, The special effects in this movie were pretty amazing. The look of the Earth and how L.A. looks all in rubble seems like it is real. It is like the city has been at war. The space station seemed like a far off paradise that everyone would want to go to and live. The living quarters were modern and elegant. All of the interiors were beautiful. The "outdoors" was like walking into Eden. It was all so beautiful. Now those were the best parts of the movie for me.
The story is sadly something that different governments and upper society would love to happen. Just look at what they are doing to the classes here in America. The super rich want nothing at all to do with the other two classes beneath them. The rich just want and need to others to work for them to make them more money. Does that not sound like something that is really going on? On the space station, they had the technology to heal people in a scanning machine. Just so the wealthy survive longer than the rest.
The cast for the movie was not bad at all. Matt Damon was fine in the movie. It is not really a hard role for him to play. There is not that much emotion involved in the role, but there is tons of action in it though. The action and fighting scenes in the movie were pretty good. Jodie Foster was the real problem of the movie. What was that terrible ascent that she was putting on for this movie. It was so annoying, and it was completely unnecessary.
The story just hits too close to home for me. It is something that we may have to deal in the future. You just never know what the super wealthy have in mind. This is a movie that may be worth watching once, but in my opinion, that would be all. It was just an average movie with great special effects. Enjoy.
