Resident Evil (2002)

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson

Stars: Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Ryan McCluskey, Eric Mabius

A virus has escaped in a secret facility called "The Hive," turning the staff into hungry zombies and releasing the mutated Lab "Animals" that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories.

This is the first movie based on the popular horror video game by the same name. Now, the video games are really good and can be scary at times. The movie is more of a zombie action movie more than anything else. You still have the zombies come after them and the rabid zombie dogs. There is a lot of speaking and silence, since it is a movie there is more information about the characters. It is just not enough for you to care about them.

Milla Jovovich was great in this movie. Do you think that she is just too pretty to play this role or did they do that on purpose? They knew that there was going to be mostly teenage and young males watching this movie, so they are going to have the lead as a really sexy tough woman for the role. The makers wanted someone that could play the part and make the boys go wild in their fantasies. The rest of the cast did not really matters as much as long as they got the lead role correct. They did. She was great in the movie. She is solid in her roles.

The movie itself was not bad. It goes along with the game series somewhat. I mean it is not scene by scene, because that would be really long, boring and tedious. This not really a horror movie at all. It is more of an action movie. The movie is filled with fighting and shooting. Okay, they are killing zombies and monster, but it is not scary. The creation of the infected bloody dogs and the zombie dead looked really good for the day. It was all CGI, but at least these created characters made and completed the movie.

For me this movie is okay. It is not the best or the worst. It is watchable, but I just do not know about this movie being a rewatcher. It was just not that great for me. Enjoy.
