Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

Director: Jay Roach

Stars: Mike Myers, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael York, Mimi Rogers, Robert Wagner, Seth Green, Charles Napier, Will Ferrell, Clint Howard

Austin Powers is a 60's spy who is cryogenically frozen and released in the 1990's. The world is a very different place for Powers. Unfortunately for Austin, everyone is no longer sex-mad. Although he may be in a different decade, his mission is still the same. He has teamed up with Vanessa Kensington to stop the evil Dr. Evil, who was also frozen in the past. Dr. Evil stole a nuclear weapon and is demanding a payment of 100 billion dollars. Can Austin Powers stop this madman? or will he caught up with Evil's henchman?

The remembrance of the peace and love decade of the 60s was still popular in our culture. When this movie came out that 60s vibe was all over the place. People were quoting the movie on other movies and television shows. The popularity of the movie was all over the place. This movie was a big hit with younger people wanting to be cool. I love all of the 60s pop references from the movie. It is a decade that I enjoy, so this movie was a ball to watch visually, and the movie was filled with tongue and cheek humor.

Mike Myers plays two different parts in this movie, one being Austin Powers and the other one Dr. Evil. He also wrote the movie. These two characters are what really made the movie a hit. They were both so funny and well written. The look and the creation of both of the characters was great. Austin even had the worst fake chest hair that I have ever seen. It looked like a Muppet exploded on his chest. Dr. Evil acts like a old fat gay man. It all just works, so well together. The rest of the characters are great. There is just way too many to mention in this review, and it would make the review pretty boring.

If you have not seen this movie, then by all means watch it. It may be more difficult to find a copy if you are in another country, but if you can find it, watch it. You will not be sorry. It is a funny movie. I think this even a set to add to your collection. Enjoy.
