First Period (2013)

Director: Charlie Vaughn

Stars: Brandon Alexander III, Dudley Beene, Lauren Rose Lewis, Michael Turchin, Cassandra Peterson, Jack Plotnick, Judy Tenuta, Rebekah Kochan

New girl Cassie and outcast Maggie are easily the most awkward girls in high school. Together, they decide the way to win the hearts of the cute boys and popular girls is to come in first at the school talent show. But rivals Heather, Other Heather, and their popular boyfriends Brett and Dirk will stop at nothing to keep our heroes the laughing stock of the school. It's going to take makeovers, courage, and maybe even a little rapping to beat them in true 80's style.

First of all, this one of the funniest movie that I watched last year. The two main teenage girls in this movie are played by men. They are not playing drag queens or anything like that. They are portraying teenage girls in this movie. This has not been done in a movie, since John Waters had Divine play a woman in his films. Male actors are just too scared for this to happen more often. It worked so well in Waters' movies, and it was great in this movie as well. Cassie looked better as a teen girl. You could still tell. She was the most delusional character that I have seen in a movie. She made the movie so funny. Maggie looked like an ugly guy in lipstick. I loved how other kids saw her as a coat rack.

This movie is like a bad flashback to the early 80's teen comedies. The clothes are there, the attitude and separation of the classes and you have older actors playing teenagers. I miss those movies so much. I just wish that those movies were as funny as this one is. This movie captures everything that was good and bad about those movies. They just made this movie dirtier and more crude. I just love that.

The cast for this movie was not the best and brightest, but the most interesting and wonderful. Lance Bass' husband, Michael Turchin, is one of the hot teenage boys. Comedian Judy Tenuta is the fortune teller. She was not in the movie that long. Rebekah Kochan has been in other gay comedies, and she is always funny. The best in the movie is Cassandra Peterson. You know her mainly as Elvira. She is Cassie's mother in the movie. She scenes are really good.

If you can find a way to watch this movie, then you need to watch it. I had doubt for the movie, but it had me laughing right off the bat. This is one of the funniest movies that I have seen in a while. It is well worth watching. Enjoy.
