Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016)

Directors: Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato

Stars: Tom Baril, Dennis Barrie, Jonathan Becker, Debbie Harry

An examination of the life and work of the revered and controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

This documentary was an interesting look into the photographer's life. The movie takes a deep look at what Mapplethorpe was known for, and it was his controversial nude and sexual shots that he took of friends and lovers. They even cover the court case of his work trying to be banned because of some pieces being to sexually explicit.

You get to hear from people in the art world that worked with him and others that knew him personally. The one person that I thought would be interviewed was Patti Smith. It showed the photos taken of her, and they talked about their relationship. That was it though. I was disappointed in that.

If you are a fan of his work, then this is something you should watch. It was very interesting and informative. Enjoy.
