Drag Me to Hell (2009)

Director: Sam Raimi

Stars: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Ruth Livier, Lorna Raver, Reggie Lee

Christine Brown is a loans officer at a bank but is worried about her lot in life. She's in competition with a competent colleague for an assistant manager position and isn't too sure about her status with a boyfriend. Worried that her boss will think less of her if she shows weakness, she refuses a time extension on a loan to an old woman, Mrs. Ganush, who now faces foreclosure and the loss of her house. In retaliation, the old woman place a curse on her which, she subsequently learns, will result in her being taken to hell in a few days time. With the help of a psychic, she tries to rid herself of the demon, but faces several hurdles in the attempt.

This was a really good movie. I just did not think that Sam Raimi could pull off a horror movie that would exactly have some type of substance to it, but he did it. He pulled out a great movie with a great story and special effects. It was a team effort to make this movie. There is no way just one man could have done all of this by himself, but he was the leader of the team.

The cast for the movie was not bad at all. Justin Long was trying to be funny in the beginning of the movie to lighten the mood. It worked, but you good also look at it as his character was just insensitive to his girlfriend's feeling. Lorna Raver was the best in the movie and the real star in the movie. She was so good and so creepy and dirty in this movie. Her actions were the ones that really did freak you out through the whole movie.

The special effects were what really made this movie. Raimi pulled out all of the punches when making this movie. You see a few scenes that seem to give a nod to the Evil Dead movies. It is there, but you may have to look for it. I am not going to give anything away, just in case you have not seen this movie yet. There are some gross yucky scenes in this movie that make it well worth watching.

The only bad part about the movie is that, if the character was thinking, then she could have ended the whole thing quickly. She just was not thinking at all. Any way this was a really good movie. If by some chance you have not watched this movie, then I have no idea what you are waiting for. It is well worth watching. Enjoy.
