Milo is a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
When I want to watch a disaster movie, then that is what I want to see. I could care less for a fake tie in romance story to just draw in more women to watch it. That is a really sad reason to just try to work in a fake love story just to get that demographic to watch it. It is kind of a low blow, but that is Hollywood for you. I just want to see total chaos and nothing else. We do not know much about what happened there on that day, so they just started to make up stories surrounding a large erupting volcano for people to try and run from.
The cast could have been anyone that you would have wanted to see killed by rock and lava. It really would not have matter who was in the movie. You just wanted to see what the destruction of Pompeii would have looked like through all of these eyes. Which I will say that they did a great job of recreating the look of the city and its fall. You could feel the doom and the feel of being trapped with nowhere to go. I mean how in the hell are you going to run from a volcano shooting flaming rocks and lava all over the place. When those flaming rocks make contact, they are going to explode. All of that still make for a visually exciting movie.
The only real problem with this movie was the bad romantic made up story that went through it. It just should have been a disaster movie and that's all. It is worth watching once or maybe twice or more. Enjoy.
