In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dali arrives at the university. He is 18 years old and determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university's social elite - Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Salvador is absorbed into their youthfully decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However as time passes, Salvador feels and increasingly strong pull towards the charismatic Federico, who is himself oblivious of the attentions he is getting from his beautiful writer friend, Magdalena. In the face of his friends' preoccupations and Federico's growing renown as a poet. Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in a sea-side town.
This was a very interest part of the story of the life of Salvador Dali. The gay love affair that he had while in college. He was an odd man period. As he got older the more strange he became. I know he was one of the greatest artist, and they normally lead different lives than the rest of the populous.
The movie itself was good. It did run really slow in several parts, so you really had to be into the movie to keep up and pay attention. Robert Pattinson must have been looking to break the whole indie movie art house films. It is where lots of careers took off. Her got the Twilight movies instead to launch him into stardom. If you watch him you will see that he is not a very good actor. He is just average, and sometimes he over does it. Like he did in this movie. It seems like he is overacting to show up in the movie more. It just does not work. The rest of the cast was really good in their part. He was just the star that over did it.
This is a decent movie to watch. I just wish that it would have been better. The story was too interesting to just be half done. If you can find a copy to watch, then I think you should give it a chance. Enjoy.
