Jesus Camp follows several young children as they prepare to attend a summer camp where the kids will get their daily dose of evangelical Christianity. Becky Fischer works at the camp, which is named Kids on Fire. Through interviews with Fischer, the children, and others, Jesus Camp illustrates the unswerving belief of the faithful. A housewife and homeschooling mother tells her son that creationism has all the answers. Footage from inside the camp shows young children weeping and wailing as they promise to stop their sinning. Child after child is driven to tears. Juxtapose these scenes with clips from a more moderate Christian radio host who is appalled by such tactics.
This is my favorite documentary. It is deliciously crazy. There is nothing more psychotic than this. Becky Fischer and these kids parents are homeschooling their kids where all they know in life is what is taught at home and in the church. Most outside influences are considered bad, if it does not involve a church or church practices. These kids are blind to so much of the world by adults that are doing this for their well being. They are all controlling and brainwashing these kids. Becky Fischer is not even married nor does she have children of her own. Because she is a woman that does not even raise an eyebrow, but if it was a young man that was doing this, he would be removed or worse would be done to him. It just makes you think.
When these kids are interviewed in the documentary, you can really see the damage that these adults have caused to them mentally and emotionally. One little girl talks about dead churches where the people are too calm, so God does not come to that church. The classy boy with the long rat tail acts like something is wrong with him. He wants it too much, but he is too young to even understand how anything in the world works. They believe everything is a sin. Do you remember Carrie's mother Ms. White? See what I mean.
This something that all need to watch, whether you believe in it or not. It could just be entertaining for you. Kids should just be kids, and that is it. This documentary shows what can happen when children are controlled to much. Enjoy.
