Hall Pass (2011)

Directors: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly

Stars: Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, Jenna Fischer, Richard Jenkins, Stephen Merchant

Rick and Fred are best friends who have a lot in common, including the fact that they have each been married for many years. But when the two men begin to show signs of restlessness at home, their wives take a bold approach to revitalizing their individual marriages: granting them a “hall pass,” one week of freedom to do whatever they want…no questions asked. At first, it sounds like a dream come true for Rick and Fred. But it isn’t long before they discover that their expectations of the single life, and themselves, are completely, and hilariously, out of sync with reality.

This movie makes straight men really look at themselves when they are married with kids. They usually do not have the body or looks that they once had in their younger years. They have the dad body in the worst possible way, and they know nothing of current events or culture. They need to stay in the suburbs and golf courses that they are use to. When you watch this movie, you will see what I mean. It literally spells it out for you. These guys are pretty sad with their lies and stupidity.

The cast was pretty good, and at time they were quite funny. Christina Applegate and Jenna Fischer were both really good in this movie. You see the ease in their eyes while playing the part. Owen Wilson seemed to just play the part he can do best. Jason Sudeikis usually plays the friend that in real life you would kick him to death. He is always making a situation fresh and worse than it would have really happened. It is a character anyone would want to disappear. Who is this Stephen Merchant? I have seen him in other movies, and he acts the same in all of them. He sucks. He thinks he is so funny, but he comes off as a idiot instead. It is the bad joke of " I'm tall, awkward and British, please look and laugh at me. I'm being dirty." He needs to go away for good.

I could have completely done without this movie. It added nothing, except to show how strange and creepy middle-aged straight married guys really are. Parts of the movie make the guys seem predatory, but to think about it, a lot of them are. A lot of people will love this movie, but I just think it just so many of these comedies that are being thrown on the screen for the masses to watch. Enjoy.
