Two teenage couples decide to spend the night at a carnival, because they heard that other people they know did it. After the carnival shuts down, one of the workers, the mutated son of the owner, kills the fortune teller because she would not have sex with him. The teenagers witness it from above the room, and now have to escape the carnival before the mutant kills them.
First of all, who in the hell would think it would be a good idea to spend the night in a carnival? Some of those then were pretty scary. It is not like you can turn everything on and ride all the rides or cook all of the food that you want all night without anyone knowing about it. There would be nothing to do but sit in the darkness and smelling foulness, well that would be at the county fair here. These girls were pretty stupid for dating these losers. The girls even put out for the guys in the Funhouse. Isn't that the most romantic place to have sex? Only if you have a really weird specific fetish.
That fortune teller had the self respect of a trout. She knew what that looked like under that mask, and she till only asked for $100. I know that was a lot of money then, but still, I would have had to ask for at least $1000. She was absolutely nasty for that, so she should have been killed. Just my opinion. The look of the real face of the "monster" would completely make me freak out as well. Just think of having sex with someone with a bag over their head, and when they take it off you see a head and a face like that. You would go insane and crap yourself. Nasty.
This movie was directed by the great Tobe Hooper who brought us some of the best horror from the 70's and 80's. This movie was not as good as his others, but it is one of those movies that you kind of want to watch over and over. The cast for the movie was good for what the movie was.
I love this movie it is early 80's horror true. The story is decent and the make-up is good. The movie shows how stupid people thought that teenagers were then. They did nothing but get into trouble. I think you should give this movie a chance, if you have not seen it yet. Enjoy.
