In Lanville County, Texas, the Chicken Ranch has for generations been known as the best whorehouse in Texas for its wholesome fun, strict moral code and cleanliness. Miss Mona Stangley currently runs the house. The Chicken Ranch has always had the unofficial blessing of the local authorities, who see the ranch providing an important community service, one which most in local authority have used at one time or another in their life. In fact, Miss Mona and Lanville County Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd have been in a relationship for years, Ed Earl who is Miss Mona's protector, albeit one with a hot temper and good ol' boy attitude that doesn't exactly match the needs of his law upholding position. A TV evangelist finds out about the whorehouse, and he wants to do an undercover show about it. Mona promised to close on the night the camera crew was suppose to come, but it was the yearly night for the football team to come visit.
This movie was one of the best more modern day movie musicals out there. The movie had it all a great cast, sex, nudity and Dolly Parton. It was also kind of funny. The main thing that hurt this movie was the title, the poster and the outfits that Dolly wears are a bit small. It seems like it would be one those nudie comedies of the early 80's. You know the ones were the story is way too stupid, but most of the woman in the movie are topless and having lots of sex. This movie is nothing like that at all.
The cast was absolutely great. Dolly Parton proved again that she can act, and her singing voice is unstoppable. Burt Reynolds as a singer can go, but he did a good job of it. Dom DeLuise is almost always funny. Those were the days when he was in some of the best comedies. The cast made this movie, nothing else.
Now this being a musical, there was dancing scenes in this were the men are trying to be macho and
dance at the same time. It just does not work at all. Even some of the dancing in the movie is terrible.
This is a great movie. Just because it has Dolly Parton in it does not mean that this a family movie. It is not. It is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again. If you have never seen this movie before, then go out and find a copy. Enjoy.
