Director: Lars von Trier
Stars: Willem Dafoe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Storm Acheche Sahlstrøm
A couple has just lost their son in a terrible accident. The wife is so torn up grieving that she is in the hospital for over a month, until her husband, a therapist, checks her out. He takes her to the woods at a cabin to help get her through the process of grieving, but she does not want it. She completely losses her grip on reality and takes it out on her husband.
There is a warning for this movie. If you are easily offend at all then you should not watch this movie at all. This movie contains very graphic sexual scenes and graphic violence. Now that being said. I did warn you.
The cinematography for this movie is some of the best I have ever seen. There are some absolutely beautiful breathtaking shots of the woods and atmosphere that I have seen in a movie. The entire movie looks surreal, but it is all real living plants and trees. The environment that the characters are placed in seems like a dream world that you would never want to leave.
The passion in the actors performance was so intense that at times you could almost taste it. The physical and emotional scenes can through as if you were secretly sneaking into a couple's private life. The rawness and the passion was there. It was present.
Now, there are scenes in this movie that I do not know if I want to see again. The sex was so forced and dirty that it seemed bad to watch at times. The gore and violence in the movie was over the top for a drama. It was hard to watch at times for what this crazy woman was doing to her husband. I will not give away the juicy details.
This is flat out a great movie, but like I said, it is not for everyone. Do not watch this movie in mixed company. You will offend some people. I do encourage those brave enough to watch this movie. See what beauty will enfold before you. Enjoy.
