Red State (2011)

Director: Kevin Smith

Stars: Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman, Nicholas Braun, Ronnie Connell, Kyle Gallner

Jarod convinces his two best friends, Travis and Billy-Ray, to have sex with a 38 year old woman near town. One their way, they side swipe a parked car on the side of the road. In the parked car the sheriff was having sex with another man. The boys get to the trailer to find the woman wanting the boys to have a few beers first. They are drugged and find themselves in the complex of the fundamentalist Five Points Trinity Church of the Pastor Abin Cooper. They believe in killing sinners to please God. The boys are there to be sacrificed before God and the church members, who are mostly related to one another. The AFT are tipped off about the church and attack the church with gunfire.

I hope you do not know people this crazy, if you do then run away from them. This church in this movie is really crazy. They make the Westboro nut jobs look sane and friendly. Killing people for God is never the way to heaven, you would be surprised to know how many people would believe in it.

The movie itself is pretty good. It was a shock to see Kevin Smith tackle another movie dealing with religion, since he got slapped so hard over Dogma. This movie looks at the Christians extremist that are plaguing this country. They know not of love, but only hate fills their stupid heads. Smith created the film in a way not to glorify these people, but he showed how their thinking process works, and how the children are told to learn nothing else.

Many people did not like this movie at all. Art needs to reflect what is happening in our society. Kevin Smith really tried to take us there in this twist look at small town religion. I thought it was a good look into what is really going on in many small towns in America. People are losing their minds and excepting  this type of behavior as something to lean toward. If you know of or belong to a church with an arsenal anywhere, then get the hell away from them. They are a cult sweetie, nothing more.

You have probably hear bad reviews about this movie, but I think you should still give it a chance. The same thing happened to me. Hear nothing really great about the movie, so I stayed away from it, and It was so much better than I thought it was going to be. Enjoy.
