Hatchet (2006)

Director: Adam Green

Stars: Kane Hodder, Joel David Moore, Deon Richmond, Tamara Feldman, Mercedes McNab, Parry Shen, Patrika Darbo, Robert Englund, Tony Todd

Ben is in New Orleans with his friends trying to get over breaking up with his girlfriend. One of his friends Marcus goes into a store with him, and sign up for a haunted swamp tour. The tour guide, Shawn ends up being a scam. There is a suburban older married couple, a sleazy business man with two young females shooting a titty video. Along with Ben and Marcus, there is a woman on board who is looking for her father and brother that went missing in the swamp. The guide took them to an area of the swamp that is off limits, because it's haunted by the spirit of Victor Crowley. He is the one haunting part of the swamp, and he will kill anyone the comes to his area. These people have to get out of the swamp alive.

This is a movie for people that love older horror movies. You know the ones that are not lame as hell like the ones they make today. This movie pulls out all the punches. There is literally blood being splattered all over the place. The death scenes are over the top. The story is simple, but it is the graphic gore that really sells the movie to a horror audience.

The cast is mostly well known. There are several times you will say, I know that person or something to that nature. The cast is made up of well known horror icons. It was really odd to see most of the main actors in 80's horror in the same movie. Kane Hodder, who played Jason a few times, plays two roles in the movie. Robert Englund and Tony Todd have very small roles in the movie, but they got them both to be in the movie. You also have Mercedes McNab from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you ever wanted to see her breasts, then here is your chance. One of them looks odd. She had a bad boob job.

We finally get a horror movie that was made for horror fans. How long did that take? Why did we have to wade through all of these copycat horror movies to get back to the good stuff? It is something that I have been waiting for a long time. I think you will like this movie. At least give it a chance. Enjoy.
