Wallace Bryton and Teddy Craft host a podcast cast. Teddy finds a video online of a man supposedly cutting his leg off, so Wallace flies to Canada to interview the guy for the show. When he gets to the man's home, his father is there for his funeral services. While at a local bar, he sees a handbill for adventurous stories, so his calls to go and meet this man. Howard Howe treats his new guest with stories and tea, then he starts to transform Wallance into a walrus, in every possible way.
The movie came about from one of the episode of the Smodcast that Kevin Smith does. There was an ad in a paper about a man looking for a roommate and they would have to dress up in a walrus costume. Smith decided it was good enough a story to make a movie, and he was correct.
This movie was very interesting in how much detailed the conversations were between Wallace and Howard. Once the two men sat down and Howard started telling stories, I was in. I was completely interested in the stories as well. It did annoy me a bit when that section of the movies ended. I wanted more stories. The story of the movie is good and oddly enough pretty solid. The make up for the movie was really good. The walrus costume that was made from humans seemed like a big nod to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.
The acting in the movie was good, not great. Justin Long was good at acting like a total douche bag. You kind of hate his character. He is so self absorbed and cocky that you are almost glad that it happens to him. Johnny Depp's detective character was a complete waste of time. It was more annoying than anything else. It was not funny or amusing in any way. He did not even use his real name in the credits that alone is pretty stupid.
I really did like this movie. It is so worth seeking out a copy to watch with a group of friends. Enjoy.
