Mixed Nuts (1994)

Director: Nora Ephron

Stars: Steve Martin, Madeline Kahn, Robert Klein, Anthony LaPaglia, Juliette Lewis, Adam Sandler, Liev Schreiber, Rita Wilson, Parker Posey, Jon Stewart, Joely Fisher, Garry Shandling, Steven Wright, Haley Joel Osment

It's Christmas Eve at a crisis hotline.  Philip, Steve Martin, runs the center with the help of Catherine and Mrs. Munchnik.  That morning the landlord hands Philip an eviction notice.  They are behind on rent with no way of getting it.  Catherine, Rita Wilson, is an optimistic lonely woman with nothing really to do but knit.  She is friends with Gracie, Juliette Lewis.  Felix and Gracie are expecting a baby, but she thinks he is a loser, because he is an artist with no wall to paint.  Mrs. Munchnik, Madeline Kahn, has been alone for so long that now she does not believe in it.  Philip has not told them about the eviction yet. Though out the night there are several more visitors to the office to stir up trouble and emotions.

This is my favorite Christmas movie, because it is not traditional at all and very funny, in a dark mean way.  There are so many characters in this movie that it is difficult to mention all of them without spoiling the movie or telling most of the movie.
The cast for this movie is incredible.  A true star comedic cast was ensemble for this movie.  The break out star in the movie was Liev Schreiber, as Chris, the cross dresser.  This was his first movie, and who knew what would become of him.  His screen time with Steve Martin was beautifully funny.  And what can you say about Madeline Kahn, she is always amazing in her roles.  For this movie her lines were some of the best in the movie.  I love that the rest cast was full of talented actors, whom society has now thrown away just because of their age.  These are still funny people, and we need to see as much of them as we can while they are still on Earth.

We have already lost Madeline Kahn, and  the director, Nora Ephron, who has made some great films that I personally love.  I'm waiting for this movie to be released on blue ray.  Get a copy of this movie for next Christmas or just any old time. Enjoy.
